Daniel Pritchett | Happy New Year to everyone! As a new CFMA member, I'm interested in discussing study materials and test preparation for the CCIFP exam. I would love to hear from anyone planning on sitting for the exam in 2012. In addition, I would love to hear feedback from currect CCIFPs regarding their test preparation. Thanks |

Heather Dunn | In regards to the test preparation, check to see if your local CFMA chapter has a study group or overview course. My local chapter in Orange County holds one which provides a great foundation for the types of information covered on the exam. In addition, there is a study guide book which tells you which specific sections of the Construction Accounting guidance books you will need to focus on. That is a big help since those books are very large. In regards to the comment about the designation itself, I am a CPA and a CCIFP and I find that having both is very beneficial. The CPA designation is one that test your understanding of being an accountant in general. It's testing auditing, tax, financial, and buisiness concepts. If you're in accounting these are all important things - so it's an important designation on its own. The CPA exam however does not test your understanding of construction accounting in any significant way. That is why, I feel it is very important to ALSO have the CCIFP. The combination shows that you have a solid understanding of not just the general accounting practice, but also the specific accounting guidance required to be a processional in Construction. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments, I enjoy being a resource to those considering the CCIFP designation. Best Regards, Assurance Manager, Frazer LLP |

Becky Christ | For those of you who have a CPA License and a CCIFP license, do you feel like the CCIFP provided any added value or additional opportunities beyond having your CPA License.
Thank you |

Melinda Dicharry | Hi Daniel, I sat for the CCIFP exam three years ago. The test is very thorough, but if you study and practice the calculations, you will be just fine. I took the review course offered by my local chapter. I also purchased the review package (available online here) and the "Book". I still refer to the Book from time to time. The study guide is very helpful. I say go for it! Good luck! |
