We are attempting to move our email service to a Hosted Exchange using Google, Gmail.  We have approximately 40 users total in 2 separate offices, many of whom also use remote devices for access.  We want to continue using MS Outlook for user interface to maintain ease of use.  We were faced with replacing the existing MS Exchange Server and related software update which seemed costly compared to the hosted exchange in terms of initial outlay and maintenance.

We are having difficulty with the migration and synchronization thru Outlook.

Does anyone have experience with a Hosted Exchange environment, particularly Gmail for this size or larger user group?

Is a Hosted Exchange advisable for this size user group?

Thanks for any input!

Jenny Emmenegger We have been using google for about 4 years. Syncronizing with outlook. Works great for us.

Susan Capriola We made the switch to corporate gmail last year.  We had about 25 users total at the time and it actually went fairly smoothly.  The Outlook Sync seems to work well for us, although the migration for some users that had huge .pst Outlook files did take time as we have a slow upload capability at our location.  What is great is Google really handles SPAM well.  As fair as size goes, the consultant we used to get us started had just finished moving a large contractor we work for with hundreds of employees over to gmail with no issues.  Good luck.

We were facing the same problem about a year ago, upgrade our email server and software or use a hosting service.  We choose Gmail for business since it had the most reasonable cost.  Our transition was smooth and it has worked great since.  It will even appear as outlook on your computer for those who don't like change.  Our only complaint with the G mail for business is that it does not have a global contact list that all users in you company can use.

I hope this helps.
