TESTIMONIALS
VALLEY OF THE SUN CHAPTER
CFMA Valley of the Sun Chapter
PO Box 7703
Phoenix, AZ 85011-7703

Valley of the Sun chapter members were asked, "What is the 'real' value of CFMA to you?  How does your CFMA membership benefit you?"  Here's what they had to say:

How can you get the most out of CFMA.... by getting involved!  I can honestly say that getting involved was the best resource for me both professionally as well as personally.

Monthly lunch meetings are the best around with very up-to-date information on current issues that all construction companies are grasping to deal with.  There are several committees to join that range from meeting dates that are monthly versus ones that are only for a couple of months.  There is a wide assortment of associate members as well to help with areas such as bonding, taxes, banking, insurance, and legal issues.

The National convention is a great resource for meeting people from other states that you could someday be doing business in, and now you have a source to call and get information whether for estimating, taxes, liens, etc.

By getting involved and meeting all of the great members, CFMA is the best resource to stay up to date in your profession as well as in the construction industry.  After I leave any CFMA function, I feel energized!!!!!

The years I’ve been a member of CFMA VOS have shown me again and again how valuable it is to be involved in Chapter activities. Personally, participating and giving back to the VOS Chapter has rewarded me with knowledge, experience, training, a group of like-minded individuals with whom to share ideas, multiple approaches to every-day decisions, and, of course, some great relationships . . . both personal and professional. Now, more than ever, networking and relationships are important in these economic times, and CFMA VOS offers those at every turn.

Being a member of VOS has paid off for me in many ways, not the least of which is the job I now hold. A fellow VOS member, Cindy Lee, approached me about interviewing for Controller at Haydon Building Corp. What I now consider my “perfect fit” job was a result of networking at CFMA VOS meetings.

My plans are to continue contributing to VOS because they certainly give a lot back to me.

Market competition notwithstanding, the single, most important benefit of my CFMA membership is the knowledge and comfort that I can call any member nationwide, as well as CFMA headquarters in New Jersey, for help with any unresolved issue or question and obtain either an answer or a suggestion of another potential resource for a solution to my problem.  CFMA truly is the source and resource for construction financial professionals!"

CFMA helps me by helping my customers.  By getting them involved in CFMA, they become better employees, more knowledgeable, and better networked.   This indirectly helps me because my happy customers talk to other people that may have a need for my software and services.

I joined CFMA back in 1992 shortly after starting at Corbins Electric.  Initially I felt like I didn’t belong perhaps because my knowledge was very limited at that time.  For whatever reason, I stopped going to meetings after several years.  There is a positive ending to this story, however.  An Associate Member, Moni LaLonde, picked me up to go back to a luncheon, introduced me to several people and I began to get my feet wet again by getting involved.  I joined the program committee and accepted a position on the Board.  That allowed me to meet more people, understand the organization better, and want to get more involved.  I am currently a co-chair of the program committee as well as Treasurer of our Chapter.  I can honestly say getting involved made all the difference.

Since coming to the valley in 1995, CFMA has been the best source of introductions to many of the leaders in the construction industry and the people who support the industry.  It is a great source of contacts and resources for anyone involved in the construction industry.

Other than being the source and resource for construction financial management information, CFMA provides the greatest opportunity to network with the decision makers for products related to financial matters in the construction industry.

CFMA is among the very best organizations serving the needs of the construction industry.  The local CFMA Valley of the Sun Chapter provides something for everyone: educational monthly luncheons, informative speakers, networking opportunities, committee participation, career growth, professional accreditation, social activities, and true friendships.  Without a doubt, CFMA is among the best industry-related organizations in the Southwest.  I highly recommend CFMA!

One of the most important benefits of CFMA is the networking and friendships that you develop at the functions.  I have gotten to know many associates that can assist me with accounting issues when needed, but more important, I have developed lasting friendships.

As a service provider to the industry, I find the networking and educational opportunities 'A+' !  When I need an expert opinion, the membership directory is truly “the source” for advice on any accounting, insurance, tax, or construction law issue.

When I joined CFMA over 10 years ago, I never envisioned the impact that decision would have on my professional, as well as my personal life.  By becoming involved with CFMA, on both the Chapter and National levels, I have made some great business contacts and some life-long friends.  The business contacts have been an incredible resource for my company, and my CFMA friends have been my greatest supporters.

Of course, I cannot forget to mention the numerous educational opportunities available to all members.  When considering the wide variety of topics covered at our monthly luncheons combined with the National Conference sessions and the bi-monthly publication CFMA Building Profits, I would venture that CFMA members are the most-informed professionals in the construction industry.

The social aspect of CFMA membership and involvement is probably the glue that holds it all together.  At events such as membership Happy Hours, the Annual Golf Tournament, the Executive of the Year Banquet, and the various 'get-togethers' at the National Conferences, bonds are formed and nurtured with other members both locally and nationally.

In general, it has been a total joy to be involved with CFMA and the Valley of the Sun Chapter and I am grateful to have been a part of it all for the past 10 years.
